Bee Law
8/04/24
Bee had her initial assessment today. Her tack is up to date with checks
and she has had time off due to various factors.
Posture and static assessment: reveals that Bee is looking to reduce her
condition score which inevitably will occur with increased workload.
Shod in front and barefoot behind. Foot balance looks good. Posture
shows increased pectoral use and dropped thoracic sling, bracing of the
right and left forelimbs is shown through tense cutaneous omobrachialis
muscle. Bilateral musculature is braced and reducing retro-mandibular
space. Long head triceps bilaterally palpated, more so right. Elevated
head carriage due to tense rhomboidius and excess use of nuchal
ligament. This is inverting thoracic posture and causing hypotrophy
under the saddle region. To compensate, tension is held through extended
pelvic posture with hypertonic bands. Increased barrel swing left, fixed
right hand side.
Gait assessment – Straight moving limbs and travel on 2 tracks. Right
hindlimb showed reduced muscle mass in quadriceps and stifle/hock
flexors. Left hindlimb moves medially in flight and lands with lateral
loading pattern. Forelimbs straight in walk, in trot show some carpal
lateral circumduction – possibly due to decreased limb protraction.
Hindlmbs track up. On the tight turns, stilted with hindlimbs at first,
better right than left even following session. Foot placement 2/3, foot
height 2/3 and rhythm 2/3.
