Alfie
02/4/24
Alfie was seen for physiotherapy following an injury resulting in
shortened stride with his hindlimbs and decreased impulsion. Injury
cause was unknown, possibly happened while in the field or hacking to
arena.
Subjective
For the last 6 months since previous session, Alfie has been competing
and having regular weekly lessons. He has developed much more topline
and muscle mass and his balance and core strength has also improved.
Objective
Mild rotation of left hindlimb in stance phase of walk, hoof is toe in
on the left hindlimb. Moves narrow with hindlimbs in walk. Mild pelvic
drop right side in walk and trot, very mild and not consistent. Lameness
is not apparent when limbs flexed at fetlock or hock/stifle. Wider
stance than previously seen suggesting good muscle mass. Mild crepitus
in complete hock flexion bilaterally. Small swelling cranial hock LH.
Both lumbar regions restricted on lower back. Serratus mildly
restrictive.
Plan and Exercises
- Rest for 2 weeks – complete stretches and 20 min polework session 3x
week in hand
- Re-assess for any improvement and if no improvement – vet assistance
may be required
-
- Continue to develop gluteals through hip movement. Back ups and
transitions.
- Engage core and lift forehand
- Improve hindlimb flexion
