Subjective: Sapphie has had her initial consult today. All feet are
balanced and recently trimmed. Body score is moderate, some weight loss
would be beneficial. Stands square and even on each limb. Wide chest and
narrow hindquarter stance. Conformation slightly downhill with croup
high.
Side bone present. Owner owned since youngster – looking to do some
hacking or low level long lining work.
Gait: Right pelvic hip drop, left side braced. Tracks up in walk and
trot, Less flexion right hind-limb. Lands on lateral wall of forelimbs.
Tracks straight. Tight turns left and right show good lateral flexion in
neck and back. Foot flight, placement and rhythm are good on the tigh
turns, hindlimbs slightly stilted and lacking stride length on the tight
turns.
Palpation – Lumbar restrictions bilaterally, more on right. Limb range
of motion is good in the forelimbs, base of brachiocephalicus tender and
hypertonic bilaterally. Increased load on the pectorals, difficulty
raising the thorax behind wither. Hypotonic thoracic epaxials,
hypertonic lumbar region.
