Tasha – Exercise Prescription
19/3/24
Tasha was seen 19/03/24 for physiotherapy to aid her spondylosis and
following recent cruciate surgery. Tasha is doing well with her physiotherapy,
Owners report a few days where Tasha did not have her medication – this has
resolved, but will be monitored.
Sit posture shows a laterally placed right hindlimb – inconsistently. We are still
working on her rising from the sit to the stand, pushing off both hindlimbs, as
this is still being avoided when rising. We are aiming to aid Tasha with
climbing the stairs, to do this we have altered exercises to include walking
over a mop/broom to aid weight bearing and stifle flexion.
Tashas back pain is also reduced, there are still some areas of discomfort
especially around her areas of spondylosis, but this is positive. Keep
waking up and down kerbs and if she can go to the park, maintain this.
Points Discussed
Calendar –Keep up with the calendar, remember to be home by the time
any scuffing of toes or slowing down.
Food – Keep weighing out Tashas food ration, remember to add in allowance
for her treats to enable you to do the exercises. Excessive weight will overload
her joints and reduce her ability to move freely.
Kerbs – Use kerbs to watch for hindlegs stepping up and onto the kerb, is it the
same foot each time ? does the natural rhythm of the walk change (get too fast
or too slow?). Aim 1 up and kerbs.

Over the Pole/Mop
• Slowly walk Tasha over the mop/broom
• Make sure each leg goes over one at a time. If she hops with both legs, she is not
correctly using her joints or muscle to lift each leg in turn
• Repeat 5x over – slowly build up by 1 each week
• Repeat each day.
