Dixie– Exercise Prescription

Dixie was seen following an episode of behavioural change to being ridden and towards her saddle..
Dixie is 6/9 body score and so could drop some weight but needs to also build muscle. Fed balancer
and soaked hay.
Gait assessment – On assessment she walks straight and have even foot placement. Feet are in
good condition. Good tracking up in walk. Narrow in front.
Palpation –Serratus ventralis showing tension drawing shoulders towards to the body more so on
the left side. Spinal range of motion reduced in dorsi-flexion more noticeable over thoracic region –
owner reports some sensitivity in this area when grooming etc, needs more superficial gluteal now
to increase hindlimb enagagement. Back muscles weak and lacking core strength.
Spasming thoracic region at tree point location left side and lower back more right side. Saddle
checked and narrow on the spine, room over right shoulder and saddle slipping to the right.

Stretches (every other day) (Back and legs)
Start with saddle on, lunge 5 mins walk each rein, 2 min trot each
rein, 1 min walk each rein and 2 cool off = 20 mins. (2x week)
Goal
Get used to saddle and improve back flexibility
1 x week walk out in hand 30 mins

Back up exercise and transitions in hand 20 mins (2x week)
