| | Subjective |
+---+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Owner would like Rocky to have a check up to aid his ridden work. He usually rests the right hindlimb on stance |
| | more than the left. But no issues reported. |
+---+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Objective- Gait and Palpation |
+---+--------------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Walk | Ribcage movement was equal, the left fore had a lateral landing and had worn the |
| | | shoe slightly. Bilateral hindlimbs moved laterally in swing phase just prior to |
| | | stance. Infrequently had left bend and travelled on 3 tracks. |
+---+--------------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Trot | Moved much closer behind than in walk, moved straighter infront with a high action |
| | | (breed) and did not track up by approx 2 hooves distance. Good rhythm and |
| | | symmetrical tuber coxae movement. |
+---+--------------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Palpation | Generalised hypertonicity was felt especially in the brachiocephalicus, splenius, |
| | | epaxials. Tight fascia was felt over the caudal ribcage bilaterally and there were |
| | | trigger points felt on the left (Caudal to the saddle) and on the right (last rib). |
| | | The left shoulder musculature was hypotrophic compared to the right, thought to be |
| | | resulting from the riders position. |
+---+--------------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Other | Shoeing was last done 7 weeks ago, some weight management was being implemented. The |
| | | rider sits to the right more often than the left (does this on all horses). |
+---+--------------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Objective-Range Of Motion |
+---+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | The left forelimb was less reluctant to be picked up and moved, the right hindlimb had better protraction and |
| | the left hindlimb could be improved with its range of motion in comparrisson. The back needed more flexibility |
| | and neck mobility was slightly better right than left. |
+---+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Problem list |
+---+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | • Trigger points |
| | • Hypotrophic left shoulder |
| | • Hypertonic musculature |
| | •Poor flexion in the back |
+---+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Goals |
+---+---------------------------------------------------------+-------------------------------------------------------+
| | Short Term: | Long Term: |
| | • Relieve trigger points | • Improve locomotion of the hindlimbs |
| | • Increase flexion in the back | • More muscle seen on the left shoulder |
| | •Relieve muscular tension | |

| | Physiotherapy Treatment Plan |
+---+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| | Rocky received some LASER therapy to aid the trigger points, some pain was resolved but the points remained. |
| | Pulsating Magnetic Field Therapy was applied on base 50 with pulsating rate of 17.5Hz to promote vasodilation |
| | and heating of the muscles around the shoulders, neck and lumbar region with good results. To relieve trigger |
| | points it was suggested to long rein Rocky to promote stretch through the back and to aid lift in the |
| | abdominals. Carrot stretches were also advised to again maintain stretch in the muscles after being warmed. To |
| | warm the muscles prior to exercise it was advised a hot water bottle, massage (sheet provided separately) and |
| | grooming the saddle region would help. The work on the long reins will also provide Rocky with more core |
| | strength to work long and low, this will in turn aid the amount of flexion in the back and reduce the |
| | hypertonicity in the brachiocephalicus. |
